Edmund The Saxon Boy King was buried at Bury St Edmunds after being killed at Hoxne, he was allegedly crowned at a Chapel on a Hill near Bures. There are many connections to Edmund throughout Suffolk and throughout East Anglia.
 

There has been a recent campaign to make Edmund, Patron Saint of England

Queen Consort of France, Mary died at Westhorpe Hall and was buried in The Abbey at Bury St Edmunds, her remains now lie in the Church of St Mary nearby

Wallis Simpson, later The Duchess of Windsor, received her divorce settlement at The Law Courts in St Helens Street in Ipswich, this paved the way for Mrs Simpson to marry Edward VIII who abdicated the throne and became The Duke of Windsor
