  • Risby can be dated to 972AD
  • There are only five settlements in Suffolk that can be traced back to the Danish invasion of England, Risby is one such the others are Barnby, Eyke, Lound and Ashby the two latter ones together with St Giles have round towers
  • Prior to the Norman Conquest Risby belonged to Edward the Confessor

St Giles Church Risby

  • Round Tower dd between 1000-1066AD
  • Wall paintings c 1200-25AD survive on the North Wall [interior]
  • 15c South Porch
  • 15c Font
  • Royal Arms to George III painted c1760-1800
  • A few 15c Poppy Head benches
