Served at RAF Wattisham from Oct 1962 to Feb 1964 as a Ground Electrician.
Spotted my hangar in the aerial photo; the coldest winter working environment I can remember.

I was first introduced to Suffolk as a young RAF serviceman on a grey late-October day in 1964.  This was on posting to RAF Bawdsey to become an Air Defence Operator.

I served at Bawdsey for 19 months before being posted to the Far East.

smileCongratulations to John on this Forum initiative - I shall be advertising it on the Occold, Debenham and Felixstowe Family History web sites of which I am editor.

RAF connection?? I served 38 years in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (Training) and ended up as O.C. 1287 (Wattisham) Squadron, Air Training Corps having moved there from being OC Stowmarket Sqn. And I enjoyed every minute of it!!
