When I visit FXT I do not very often get down to 'Mannings End' but after visiting one of my favourite bird reserves at Landguard I decided to take a look to see what remedial coastal work that dredgers have been up to these past few months. What a transformation, the beach has been completely replenished with Norwegian Rock as a base and small breakwaters, it is level with the promenade extending its width two times and with sand to boot! It really looks splendid, how long before the sand gets washed away and the shingle returns

Landguard Nature Reserve is something special, there are many rare plants that grow in and amonst the shingle, Little Terns nest on the beach in the summer, you can view the largest container ships in the world plying their cargoes in and out of The Port of Felixstowe. Nordic Ferries pass this way as do Ocean going Cruise Ships. Many different varieties of birds frequent the Common, including Redstarts and Blackstarts, currently we have a Peregine Falcon making its home in one of Landguard Terminals cranes, many birds pause here before making the long trip south to their [our] winter stopovers in Africa
