Orford Ness the longest vegetated shingle spit in Europe, once home to the RFC and AWRE and where the early foundations of RADAR was pioneered, here can be seen some of the masts of the World Service transmission site for the BBC, now run by some consortia for 'defence purposes'

The pagoda styled buildings were where nuclear triggers were tested by the AWRE at Orford Ness, the roofs were designed to collapse if something untoward occurred
