RE: Walking the Suffolk Coast

Just beyond Corton is the County boundary os Suffolk & Norfolk just South of Hopton on sea, beyond that is Gorleston both were in the County of Suffolk a few decades ago.

To complete the 51 miles of our coastline virtual walk from Landguard to Corton there is one furtheer look up the coast from Corton Cliffs to Scroby Sands where the windfarm sits. The last in this row of Turbines is situated some 12 miles from where I was taking this photo and this view is greatly enlarged a more 'normal view can also be seen

The distances travelled are approximate and I have judged these by using the Landranger maps 156/134 of the Ordnance Survey series

Approx mileage of each stretch of Suffolk Coast

Felixstowe, Landguard to Felixstowe Ferry = 5 miles

Bawdsey Quay to East Lane, Bawdsey = 2.5 to 3 miles

East Lane, Bawdsey to Shingle Street = 2 miles

Orfordness [North Weir Point] to Slaughden, Aldeburgh is 10 miles in length but this is not generally accessible on foot or unaccompanied

Slaughden, Aldeburgh to Thorpeness = 2.5 miles

Thorpeness to Sizewell car park = 2 miles

Sizewell CP to Minsmere RSPB Sluice = 2 miles

Minsmere RSPB Sluice to Dunwich car park = 3 miles+

Dunwich car park to Walberswick River mouth = 3 miles

Southwold RNLI Station to Southwold Pier = 1.25 miles

Southwold Pier to Easton Broad = 1.75 miles

Easton Broad to Covehithe = 1.5 miles

Covehithe to Benacre Broad = 0.75 miles

Benacre Broad to Benacre/Kessingland Sluice = 1.00 mile

Kessingland Sluice to Pakefield Coast Watch Station = 2.75 miles

Pakefield CWS to Lowestoft South Pier = 3 miles

Lowestoft South Pier to Lowestoft Ness Point = 1+ mile

Lowestoft Ness Point to Gunton = Less than 2 miles

Gunton to the Norfolk boundary at Corton = 2.25 miles

On the beach at Dunwich yesterday it was blowy and cold, the seaspay was being whipped up, there was debris on the beach and much of the shingle bank has been washed away in the recent gales
