This is the [newer] passenger/vehicle loading ramps at Parkeston Quay where vessels ply to and fro to Zeebrugge or Denmark, these can be seen from Shotley too
I would love to have a go on one of these Pilot Boats operated out of Harwich Haven by Trinity House, similar to the WWII MTBs they must have one helluva 'kick at full chat', anyone with any connections?
Saturday 4th July saw two of the 'Giants' of the Seas one was this Royal Caribbean Cruis Ship 'The Jewel of the Seas' at 90000 tons and had just left Dovercourt seen here turning beside Trinity Quay Felixstowe and then departing the RADAR point at Landguard Viewpoint where I was standing
...........and at Noon the Maersk Breed of Container Ships having the longest length in the world this one turned up The Estelle Maersk' at 397 metres long and weighing in at 170000 Tons, all on our doorstep. The DFDS Dana Sirena was forced to stop whilst the Maersk Ship was being turned on to the quay
I noticed last week that my Ferry Trip across Harwich Harbour these two Trinity House Lightships rusting away, I wonder if these could not be put to better use these days by being placed in a Maritime Museum somewhere
The following photographs are the copyright of Rick Vince, Rick has kindly allowed me to use these photos from Saturdays events at The Port of Felixstowe. Rick at the time was on the Bridge of the mv Maersk Buton as both the DFDS Tor Line Dana Sirena and the worlds longest ship the mv Estelle Maersk was being brought alongside the quay. You will note that the Estelle Maersk towers above the Buton Maersk Bridge
The photo of the Bridge Position of the Maersk Buton is the last photo in this series
