There are 8 existing Martello Buildings left on the Suffolk Coast that stretches from 1> Manor End Felixstowe currently used as a CoastGuard Watch Tower 2> One above Felixstowe Pier on the Cliffs, very difficult to see, now a private residence 3> One on Felixstowe Ferry Golf Course 4> One nearer to Felixstowe Ferry 5-7> Are positioned between East Lane, Bawdsey and Shingle Street 8> The most northerly is at Slaughden, Aldeburgh, this is/was a holiday cottage These were built in the early 19c thinking that Napoleon would invade England, they are elliptical in shape and used to carry at least one cannon on the flat roof, the walls are several feet thick
