Does anyone recall in May 1969 Sergeant Paul Meyer a Crew Chief at RAF Mildenhall [USAF base] on C130's taking off on an unauthorised flight, flying low through London Air Space and crashed in The English Channel between Bournemouth and Cherbourg? Was this aircraft shot down or did it just plunge into the Channel, I'll bet we will never know the answer to that one eh??
Yes I do he was TDY from the states and I use to eat with him at the food exchange I believe is what they called it behind the air passenger terminal. and he would be their. I was on duty the day he took off in the C-130 after receiving a letter from his wife and he wanted to go back home and see if he could see her and talk with her. We were told he crashed but those of us on the radio during the event knows what relly happened I don't care what the Air Force told his family.

Can you expand on this James or are you still under some sort of restriction? If the Charlie 130 came down on land I could understand it but as soon as I read 'in the Channel' then immediately that raises suspicions in my mind, thanks for coming forward......
Lets just say he did not crash and we were told not to discuss it with anyone. Would be nice if you could get a tape from the tower that night and you would understand.
