RE: Birds of Suffolk

AW

Haven't seen one in Kesgrave for about 3 weeks, the place I have seen literally dozens of these is around Kessingland/Benacre

Isn't there a disease going round regardng Finches where GreenF are most vulnerable?

I overheard someone talking about that but I have no idea what it is, as you know I am stuck at home now so learn very little. I had a nice surprise two days ago, I have had a pair of Wild Mallard Ducks that have visited my pond for the last four years and they have turned up again for the fifth year. They have good memories as soon as they had landed on the pond they climbed out and waddled down the garden to the Doves grub and cleaned it all up as they usually do. They will hang about for about four or five weeks and be off to breed somewhere else . Makes me wonder how long they live for.
While I am on the subject of Birds I have a few Hedge Sparrows that meet me every morning to get fed when I feed the Chickens, but no House Sparrows, I have not had a house Sparrow in the garden in the last twenty years and it is that much again since I have seen a Tree Sparrow. There has been a Song Thrush singing in my neighbours tree this last week which is a rarity these days, and a treat.

If you are a novice to bird spotting/watching/ornithology you might find this site useful for locations in the county

Anyone noticed that most of the Greenfinches have gone, I used to have a flock hanging about my garden every day for most of the day but I now only get the occasional one in for a feed of black sunflower seeds.

We haven't noticed any greenfinches lately either but we do have an abundance of goldfinches in our garden.
