Insects in Suffolk

If you would like to show your pics of insects then plese upload them here, if you find any unusual insects please discuss them here too. I always maintain that I take my camera where-ever I go, on one occasion in just walking to the postbox I came across one of these increasingly rare Stag Beetles that was crossing a path, no camera!

I think you will find it's a Scabious John, a wonderful flower for attracting Butterflies.

Next we have Scorpion Fly's followed by some Hoverflies. A lot of folks are afraid of Hoverflies as they think they are Wasps but they are completly harmless. There is another problem with Hoverflies and that is they are all lumped together as Hoverflies. Now there are lots of different types so they all have Latin names which they were given to completely baffle the likes of you, me, and the people who give things Latin names, they must scratch their heads afterwards and wonder why they did it, here goes anyway.

No.1 Scorpion fly a female
No.2      "        "  another female
No.3      "        "  A male.
No.4 A Hoverfly---Shaerophoria scripta a female
No.5 "      "      ---         "              "     " male
No.6 "      "      ---Epistrophe eligans
No.7 "      "      ---Syrphus vitripennis
No.8 "      "      ---Merodon equestris
