Margaret Catchpole was born at Hoo on 14th March 1762, she moved to Brandeston in 1796. Margaret has a pub named after her in Cliff lane, Ipswich, she was accused of stealing a horse from the Cobbold Family who lived in nearby Holywells Park. A bounty of £20 was put on her head, she was caught and found guilty, she escaped from Ipswich Gaol, recaptured and eventually tried at Bury St edmunds Assizes.

She was transported to Australia for 7 years she died in Australia aged 57 in 1819 as a well respected woman...........

I visited here on 20th March 1999 but have no suitable photo of the Church of St Andrew & St Eustachius so if anyone can add one that would be appreciated, my own notes and those of the church are:

• The Church was mentioned in the Domesday Survey of 1086
• Two coffin stones are used as steps for entering the Porch
• Tudor Brick Tower with a single bell
• 'Y' traceried windows are 13c, the remainder are 14c
• 14c Chest
• Hoo Church was featured in the film 'Akenfield' in 1973
