Falkenham

Falkenham Church is situated behind the Hall via a grass drive lined with lime trees and overlooking the marshes and the River Deben

When next in this area have a look at the church west door which is adorned with flowers [fleurons] around the arch, remember that these carvings are between 500-600 years of age, another interesting feature of the tower is that it is offset against the line of the nave.

Behind the church is a nice view and walk to the marshes alongside the River Deben, a circular walk is available

Reading some of my many notes on Suffolk places further reading suggests ' from the East End of the Church, walk through the gate on the edge of the churchyard and turn left onto the tracked footpath, at the end turn right and walk to the rivers edge [Deben] where there are fine views over to Ramsholt [photo above] on the East Side of the River or down river towards Felixstowe Ferry. If you keep to the right [facing the river] you can walk to Kingsfleet which was known as Goseford by the Saxons.

This was a busy wool port in medieval days but it was here that the Kings Navy [Kings Fleet] sheltered 40 of its warships on the eve of the Battle of Crecy in 1338, from here there is a walk to Felixstowe Ferry [quite sticky in wet weather underfoot] or return to Falkenham Church'.

Much wildfowl and waders can be seen here on a falling tide from October to March

Down on the marshes there is this boarded up house seemingly a long way from anywhere else, this picture is taken from the style near to Felixstowe Ferry Golf Course

Further to the above picture there is another taken a couple of days ago with the BT Tower in the background across the fields I do not know the distance but by road it is about 12 miles away
