In the 13th century Bures was known as Bures Nostre Dame and in the next century Bures Seinte Marie, the church of course is dedicated in the name of St Mary, anyone know the French connection?
One mile NE of the village is St Stephens Chapel, it has long been believed that on this site that Edmund The Boy King was coronated and crowned King of the East Angles
