The Domesday Survey says that half the church was owned by Hugh de Montford [an ancestor of Simon de Montford] the other half owned by the Abbey of St Edmund
The Church of St Mary is surrounded by lime trees planted in 1750
The Nave & Tower is 15c with the Chancel 14c
The Nave Roof is of Double-Hammerbeam construction and dates from 1480

A stick of bombs fell in WWII near the church and destroyed most of the glass in the windows

Sir John Sulyard was a benefactor of the church, he was at one time The Lord Chief Justice of England
