This is the site where the King of Essex, Swidhelm was baptised by the East Anglian King Aethelwald c600-700 AD. Rendlesham is also thought to have been the home of Anglo Saxon King Redwald where his Palace was supposed to have been built although no trace of this has ever been recorded [on the site of Naunton Hall perhaps?]. It is also said that when he died his body was taken from here along the River Deben to Sutton Hoo where the whole ship, Redwald and his worldly possessions were buried.
The churchtower battlements of St Gregory has a lovely chequerboard finish, an arch braced roof adorns the nave was only discovered in the 1930's when the former plaster was removed. In a recess in the north wall of the chancel is a tomb said to contain the remains of a previous rector, John Chaperon who died in 1349, a list of rectors dates from 1304, such is our rich history of Suffolk
This morning we took the UFO Walk at Rendlesham Forest adjacent to the old USAF/RAF Air Base called Woodbridge but during WWII Sutton Heath, the base commander Lt Col Holt who witnessed this event was quickly shipped back to the States. It was also reported that within 2 days unmarked aircraft flew in direct from the USA with [allegedly] CIA staff aboard No one can adequately give reason to what they saw other than a UFO, some 'official' reports claim that it was Orfordness Lighthouse shining through the forest, if anyone has been there the forest is as black as your hat. So perhaps when/if man landed on the Moon and if/when craft have visited other planets from Earth perhaps the reverse has happened too, I keep an open mind on such matters Web site http://www.ufoevidence.org/documents/doc663.htm The Forestry Commission is a QUANGO funded by HMG, their Rendlesham Forest HQ is within spitting distance of RAF [now Army 16AAC Brigade]
