A reference from my and the church notes of St Peter & St Paul at Hoxne

Bishop Theodred of London who revived Christianity in East Anglia after the Danish invasion of the 9c in his will declares 'I grant the estates at Horham and at Athelington to God's community at St Ethelbert's Church at Hoxne' [The forerunner to St P&P]

The Church and my own notes suggest

  • The tower was constructed in 1450
  • The south porch dates from 1450
  • The font is 15c too much defaced in the Cromwellian period
  • A memorial in Caen stone to General Sir Edward Kerrison who fought in the Battle of Waterloo and one time MP for Eye, another memorial to his son who was also MP for Eye
  • The often seen St Christopher wall painting can be seen on the North Wall
  • One carving on a bench depicts the wolf carrying St Edmunds head
  • Large 14c iron-bound elm chest
  • Five bells in the tower one can be traced back to the 15c
  • A list of Rectors date from 1310
