Holbrook & Alton Water

ch holbrook.jpg

A large area for recreation, bird watching, sailing, walking etc that sums up Alton Reservoir, a lovely area. The village is attractive having some lakes, well hidden, a watermill and of course The Royal Hospital School that moved from Greenwich in the 1930s. This mast head doesn't appear these days anyone know what happened to it

Here is the church

At Lower Holbrook there is a very small [sometimes difficult to park] car park here, but the walk to Alton Wharf and the walks adjacent to Holbrook Bay are very rewarding with some magnificent views, across the River Stour overlooking Essex and of course views to The Royal Hospital School at Holbrook itself

The view from the circular walk to the East of Holbrook Creek, here [weather permitting with clear skies] you can get some magnificent sunsets
