What a beautiful quiet weekday site, on the North side of the Deben Estuary, completely unspoilt, fewer houses today than there was a hundred years or so ago when Copralite was shipped from here, great views from above the pub The Ramsholt Arms
The Round Towered (Elliptical) Church Tower sits on the cliff overlooking the River, there are some fine views from here too
This village once housed three hundred people but today its population is about one tenth of that total. Ramsholts demise occurred when the digging and exporting of coprolite [fossilised dung] ceased. Parts of the wooden quay still exists. In medieval days a Ferry operated across the River Deben from here.
The pub 'The Ramsholt Arms' gets very busy in the summer months, there is a grassed area public car park 100 yards from the pub. The Church of All Saints is somewhat isolated down a narrow track but this has commanding views of the River Deben. The tower is round and was probably originally a lookout tower during Norman times.
A good selection of wading birds can be seen on a falling tide from October to March, there is a circular walk but this walk along the river bank [past the pub] is somewhat uneven and it is not always possible to walk on the foreshore. I have walked to Shottisham Creek from here, this area is very peaceful on a late summer/early autumn weekday, and is quite unspoilt
