I have great memories of Stonham. The Church pictured by John is where I was Christened back in 1948.
Church Lane
is where I first lived before moving to Stonham Aspal.  My Great Uncle started the garage in the Village, His name was Fred Banham and he was at the same time the postman. I have attached a photograph of a group outside the original garage , taken in 1927 and in it can be seen a little boy with a huge bandage around his neck. Thats my father Maurice who died in 2006. he had a growth on his neck which kept him away from school for 2 years but despite that he did well and served in the RAF during WW2 and was a good mechanic the rest his working life, Doctors could do nothing with the growth and eventually my grandmother Annie took him to a nearby vicar at Mickfield who people said could do something.  My grandmother took him on the back of her bicycle and the vicar put his hands on Maurices neck. By the time they arrived home the growth had gone. The doctors could only lance the growth and this had resulted in terrible scars still visible when he died. My grandfather was a horseman for the farmer (Mr Matthews) next door to the Church but went blind when being hit on the head by a hammer. I sill have his horse brasses on my mantle piece. My grandparents originally lived in the  cottage next to the chapel but had to move when the chapel bought the 2 end cottages and demolished them for a car park. So yes I knew the Magpie very well as it was only 100 yards down the road   The photograph was taken from a publication and Maurice's name is spelt wrong.
