Originally an old market town and staging post from London to Gt Yarmouth. It is hard to imagine today but it was less than a handful of decades ago that the main A12 Trunk Road ran through here.
The River Deben runs through the 'top end' of the town, but the church has a claim that from its tower over 30 other Suffolk Churches can be seen. This has a rare octagonal tower from base to tip!
If visiting this old coaching town, just pause to think that the old A12 Trunk road ran through here and not so many years ago to boot, also check out Valley Farm on the Easton road, here they breed the all white Camargue Horses, when I last visited a few years ago, entry was free and there was a cafe there.
There is a circular three mile walk to Ashe Abbey taking you part way along the River Deben, I did my walk on a Spring Day and was rewarded with a blue lake surrounded by golden daffodils, beautiful!
