What a wonderful town Bury is, two huge worshipping places a Cathedral with a recently constructed tower and the longest church in Suffolk (St Mary's) the sister of Henry VIII is buried here.
The Abbey was once a huge building which now boasts the Abbey Gardens and Ruins, the gardens are world renowned, a few years ago gaining the World in Bloom Crown
We have only one cathedral in Suffolk and this is St. James, dedicated in 1914 from a much older church. In the early part of the 21c a tower has been added
I recommend the Greene King IPA brewery tour. When I went me and my friend ended up tagging along with a large group of wooden planks and afterwards went to the Nutshell with a few of them.
I remember the Nutshell, friend of mine was a barman there in the 70s. There were some damned good pubs in Bury, mostly Greene King, their bitter always needed livening up with some Abbot Ale, draught Abbot was a cracking pint. I had a bedsit for a while in St Andrews St North when I worked for Amot Controls in Western Way after demob. Most drinking was done at the Woolpack in Fornham St Martin just outside Bury on the Thetford road
