On Monday this dredger was plying back and forth from the quay near the Old Dock Basin, sucking up many tons of ballast from mid channel taking it back to the Basin to fill this part of the port up in order to extend the Port of Felixstowe on the current redevelopment. These vessels are very large
On Monday, I spent some 5 hours at Landguard, FXT, taking the Foot Ferry to Harwich [HRH] in very hot conditions and returning in thick fog! I don't think that I had seen so much shipping activity in that short period of time, most of the quay from Trinity [TTY] to Landguard [LNG] was empty with the crane arms up, thus allowing many arrivals to use the port.
All the tugs based at FXT were being used, here a Maersk ship and a Medite ship are being turned in the channel for berthing at the quayside, both these 'monsters' took up much of the channel but a Mann Ferry going into Harwich Navy Yard managed to squeeze through
