Felixstowe

Since September 2004 I have photographed the area from Cliffland Carpark to the first Martello Tower and have watched the silting up of the channel to the River Deben. I first saw a spur, then a horseshoe, then one large lagoon and several other spits and lagoons form, I have seen windsurfers on the lagoon, not anymore.

The lagoon has been pushed back with very little water in the lagoon and the spread of shingle now comes to the first groyne. The layout seems to change each week

I remember driving to Felixtowe in the 70s and the big sign on the outskirts on the (then) A45 which said in big letters "Felixtowe for the continent" - some joker had scrawled underneath "and Harwich for the incontinent"
