Bawdsey & Bawdsey Quay

This is a very popular area just to be by the River Deben or the sea, served by road or (Foot) Ferry from Felixstowe. The manor was made famous just before WWII by the inventor of RADAR Robert Watson-Watt, the manor was originally built by the then Governor of the Bank of England.

The Manor House was the former Officers Mess when the RAF moved in, the RAF base later housed Bloodhound Surface to Air Missiles

RE: Bawdsey Quay

I wonder if that wonderful building will still be standing in 100 years time with the government of the day seeming to take no interest in the erosion of the beaches around East Anglia. I know Bawdsey Mannor is protected by 30 foot cliff's on the sea side of it but for how much longer ? the sea is eating into them all the time. Let's hope that someone in authority looks into the problem and it is not left to the locals with no resources to do what they can.

I was at Felixstowe Ferry today looking over at Bawdsey and we were talking to someone else where we were discussing rising sea levels and it is reckoned that by 2050 Bawdsey Quay will be an island.hmm

I wonder what advice old Charlie Brinkly (Ferryman for donkey's years at Felixstowe Ferry) would have had if he were to come back today, whatever it was I bet it would work.
Half the trouble today is the youngsters learn it all out of a book and know all the answers till things go wrong then they ask the locals, which they should have done in the first place. What the locals know is never written in any book as it is local knowledge handed down and common sense, which is sadly lacking in modern Committes and Quango's today that are too full of their own importance.
