Reparation to the beach between Walberswick and Dunwich is ongoing, personally I don't think it can be sustained failing building a massive sea wall and financial restraints will not permit this to happen where human inhabitants lives and properties are at risk in such few numbers

Covehithe and Benacre Broads are in a similar plight, this is the view looking South last Summer, it could clearly be seen where the sea had broken through the defences

Walberswick area known as The Flats

Just be a little careful here when high tides are forecast as this area can get flooded as happened to me once many years ago, the tide comes straight in through the Southwold Harbour entrance from the North Sea and can quickly fill up the creeks

Crabbing is a very popular pastime here and Little Egrets frequent the area and are usually quite tame, last year I had five within 50@ of me

Walberswick, Ferry and Bailey Bridge

If you wish to visit Southwold on the other side of the River Blyth there are two routes the Bailey Bridge at Blackshore is one method with a pleasant walk by the river or by the Ferry from the edge of the car park in Walberswick itself, but check to see that the Ferry is operating first!! http://www.explorewalberswick.co.uk/ferry.php

If travelling from Walberswick to Southwold by car the distance is about 8 miles

Southwold Harbour to Southwold Pier

There is much in the area to keep everyone occupied in this quintessential of English Towns much too much on this thread to discuss, and here I'm focussing on the coast, but there are lots of photos of the Harbour and Town here

The Alfred Corry Lifeboat Station is situated on the car park on the corner of the River Blyth and the beach
