River Deben

The source of the River Deben can be found just past Debenham (Deben-ham meaning ford)  at Aspall, this is probably the least spoiled river in all of Suffolk. The fresh water of The Deben discharges at the weir just south of Ufford, the river reach becomes quite wide from here on to where it flows out into the North Sea over The Deben Bar at Bawdsey.

There are few walks along its length, either because there is no proper footpaths or because it passes through private land. Either side of the estuaral river between Woodbridge and Felixstowe Ferry/Bawdsey you can walk for short stretches but the sea wall has been breached in quite a few places and The Environment Agency have long given up repairing these

This came as quite a shock when I visited Debenham yesterday!

That's nothing!  The depth markings up to 6 ft on the post are not there just for fun.  Several of the houses down behind the van get flooded very regularly.
