I was at Ben****ers with the 92 TFS 81st TFW,was crew chief on F101,then we got F 4's loved both acft. I arrived at Ben****ers in Nov .1962,was a very cold winter for me,I had just come from Ariz. My family arrived in England in Feb 1963,we lived at mile hill just outside of Sax. Rented a cottage from a Mr.Bush.The cottage was just below the call box at top fo the hill. In 1965 our second son was born at Ben****ers hosp. Used to go to Middleton Bell pub,Joe Shackles was owner,I think he called his wife Queenie, has son Joey. Loved those fish and chips. Left England in 1966.Went back in 2006 to London. Have two friends who stayed in England, are in Ipswich.
Thanks for your reply,my family are always talking about the good times at B/W. We have a lady from Peterborough England in our church. We lov getting together and taking England. Her family still live there. Some day maybe, just maybe we will get to Sax.& Yoxford, and of course Middleton pub. You take care, will contact you later. Best regards, Joe
When I lived in Thetford after demob a member of our darts team at The Bridge was a yank who was in charge of servicing the Phantom simulator at Lakenheath. On a couple of occasions the darts team descended on the simulator at his invitation to be treated with an evening of flying the thing. Bloody good fun and I never crashed it.
