My mother was born in the village in Pond Cottage opposite the church.  The youngest of seven children.
There used to be a natural pond in the front garden which supplied all the water for the village - now filled in, probably source intercepted and channeled elsewhere.
Both her parents are buried in the Churchyard of St Peter's.

Also a child - Alice Blanche Hall (daughter of Kate) who died at 11 in around 1910 is buried in the plot but no headstone mentions her.  She died from Diabetes - not treatable then.
Their graves where covered in grass as nobody left nearby to tend them.  My husband and I found them and dug them out and refurbished them in the summer of 2009.

My grandmother was a community midwife which I believe was an informal post. She got something like 5 shillings per confinement. Most of the children born in the village in the 1920s and 1930s were delivered by her. Sadly I never knew my grandparents.
