Hasketon

Anyone with any connections to the village?

The church has a Norman round tower, but the octagonal top section was added in 1300 amazing to thing that this has been standing for over 700 years!

My Gt Grandfather, William Lincoln, and his siblings were born in Hasketon. Some are buried in the churchyard there. They were all Christened in the church. I Believe his parents, James Lincoln and Elizabeth Hill were also married there.

The Hammonds of Hasketon meet the Shaws of Walton in Mareeba, Queensland, Australia on Jan 15th 2011

Greetings Gentlefolk of Suffolk!
I was trying to get a photo online of Hasketon Church, St Andrews, and someone was asing for any details of people connected to it.
My daughter, Tanith was born in Australia 1977, and is marrying Mark Hammond on Jan. 15th, 2011. In going through the Hammond family tree I see that there was a Robert Hammond and his wife Grace who resided in Hasketon, and they had a son, Goodwyn who was baptised in Hasketon, (presumably at St. Andrew's Church) on 02/10/1785. (Taken from'The International Genealogical Index' Baptisms for Hasketon 1785.)
It seems that some of the family moved to Ipswich and lived variously in Crabbe Street, Bond Street and were baptised and married in St. Margaret Ditches, until Charles Alfred Hammond,  born 15th August 1844 at Bond Street, Ipswich married Hannah Caroline Cracknell on 26th March 1869 at St. Margaret's Church, Ipswich. They moved to Australia, arriving on Feb 16th, 1873 in Bowen, Queensland.
One hundred years, less one week, later I arrived, from Felixstowe, in Cairns, Queensland on February 9th. 1973 with wife, Anita (Deceased) and son Shean who was born 4 blocks from Crabbe Street at Heath Road Wing of Ipswich Hospital.
My forebears are descended from Robert Lott, brother of Willy Lott (of Haywain Cottage fame) and lived in Great Wenham, Dedham, Elmsett and Burstall before moving to Ipswich and then eventually to Felixstowe. So there have been many generations on both sides of this family who moved no more than 24 kilometres or 15miles in that time. Charles went to the other side of the world and so did I, and these two Suffolk families are getting together on January 15th 2011!
Enjoy the romance! Chris Shaw
