In 1618 Sir Edward Lewknor of Denham was appointed High Sheriff of Suffolk

I first visited St Mary's on 1st May 1999, here are my notes and the church booklet notes from that visit

  • Most of the present core of the church dates from the 14/15c
  • A north chapel was added in the 16c
  • One of the bells in the tower is one of the oldest in the county and dates from the 14c
  • The registers date from 1539
  • A monument of 1605 to Sir Edward Lewkenor
