Anyone from Playford that can fill in a few details, here is my only photo of Playford Hall
Playford Church. The church stands above the village and is notable for the exquisite brass effigy of Sir George Felbrigg circa 1400. Astronomer Royal Sir George Airy is buried in the churchyard so to is Thomas Clarkson who campaigned successfully against slavery, a monument to this effect is shown on the left of picture
Playford Hall has a connection with Martlesham Heath. American pilots were billeted there including a character called "Wild" Bill Crump who sadly passed away eearlier this year.see http://www.mhas.org.uk/memories/BillCrumpAndJeep.html
Bill always refered to the Hall as Ipswich Castle. He commented that one minute you were in the thick of the action and then after returning back to the hall all you could hear were the sound of the birds.
