I have been to the Park and Gardens a few times which are beautiful, I first visited the Church of St Mary's on 13th February 1999, here are some of my and the church notes:

  • A list of Rectors date from 1307
  • John Tollemache authorised the first tower to be built in 1490
  • This was built for the princely sum of £30 !!!!!
  • ....and took 10 years to build
  • The North Door can be dated to between 1190 & 1300
  • The South Door is early 13c, just imagine who has been through those doors over the centuries
  • Under the Chancel is a vault to the Tollemache family covered with purple velvet and with coronets place on them
  • There are eight bells
  • There are many memorials throughout the church to The Tollemaches plus many headstones in the church yard
  • Gypsy Queen Rhoda Boswell and her son are buried by the yew tree
