The core of the church dates from the 14c but an earlier church was recorded in the Domesday Survey of 1086
The South Aisle was built in the time of Edmund Gonville, the founder of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge and who was Rector of St Nicholas in 1320

On the South Aisle wall is an alabaster/marble monument to Sir Henry Bokenham d1648, Sir Henry was also High Sheriff in 1630
