This is a hidden gem to a lot of people although those that know the area will have visited the nearby heath many times.
One of the best walks you can find anywhere on the flat, rarely marshy, has beautiful heather in August and September, plenty of woodland birds and butterflies.
Sutton Village is on the B1083 road, in this area the Suffolk Sandlings [Heathland] stretches as far North as Kesssingland and mainly to be found East of the A12 Trunk Road
The Church of ALL Saints has no tower this fell in 1642, the flints decorating the outside walls are not to be missed nor too is the beautifully carved font dated around 1420
The Heath is to be found prior to entering the village from the Woodbridge direction and is clearly signposted, there are excellent walks in all directions including a highly rated circular walk through Forest Commission land
There is no road access or parking between Melton and Ramsholt on this North stretch of The River Deben but there are footpaths, some of which can be overgrown especially in the summer months. The best walking point is the River stretch between Methersgate Quay to The Tips and to Stonner Point, but be prepared for a long trek
