Shottisham is a quiet village just off the B1083 road, the pub The Sorrel Horse was a favourite place for smugglers to hide their contraband in the pubs cellars in years gone by.

There is a watermill nearby which is privately owned but can be seen from the road. The Church of St Margaret sits on a rise and dates from the 15c but was much modernised in Victorian Times

Woodhall, an Elizabethan Building [1566] is nearby, the last time I visited it was a Sports Hotel and Country Club, there is a five mile walk from Shottisham Church past the Hall to Shottisham Creek, the river footpath at times can be overgrown and muddy, but this is unspoilt territory after all!

When I visited Shottisham last Friday after a gap of 12 years I looked at the pub The Sorrel Horse from many angles [there was a car in the way!] I went up to the church and took some photos of that first and came back to the pub.

I would have to say this is one of the best looking pubs I have seen [even if you include the blackboard!] I went even further and looked up its history, it dates from the 14c and it would certainly seem to predate the nearby church. The thatch, the village stocks, the Sorrel Horse sign, the Suffolk Pink and the tall chimneys to take away those smuts or embers from the thatch

Wonderful...............!
