RE: Walk the Coast

To conclude the walk from Landguard Point to Felixstowe Ferry is some five miles, these visiting fishing boats from the South Coast of England were calling in at the Ferry for some fuel.

Beyond the boats is Bawdsey Quay just a short distance across the River Deben but to get here by car you would need to travel some 24 miles away via Woodbridge!

Bawdsey Quay

Directly opposite Felixstowe Ferry, heading North we come to Bawdsey Quay, we are now in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty [AONB one of 41 sites in the UK] and a continuation of The Suffolk Coast and Heaths Path part of this walk will take you on to the Ferry Road past Bawdsey Hall and then back down School/East Lane

There are many pictures of Bawdsey Quay and Bawdsey here

Continuing over from The Deben Ferry at FXT the Quay is your landing stage or if arriving from Woodbridge there is parking on The Quay or on the Riverside embankment

I like this photo 'Wave the Bat' to attract the Ferryman's attention if he is on the othersideaww

The bus shelter and information office

The bungalows are instantly recognised in fact one of these a friend of mine was born here

There are not too many places on the Suffolk Coast where you can take photos of a setting sun over an expanse of water but at Bawdsey you can

From Bawdsey Quay we are reversing our look back at FXT Ferry

The incoming Bawdsey Ferry

From The Quay at Bawdsey this view is looking up river on The Deben

Bawdsey Manor

The history can be found on the link below, the home of RADAR which at one time was used as an RAF Officers Mess, there is usually no access to Bawdsey Manor

I came across this steamer off The Quay last year

This picture of Bawdsey Beach was taken from FXT probably the only way to get a decent shot of the cliffs, there were once some excellent gardens on the cliffs running down from The Manor
