I spent the morning yesterday at Redgrave and Lopham Fen, you need to be dedicated to walk the three routes in and around the Fen. The Great Fen trail is arguably the most interesting, pausing at the viewing platform.

It is very close to here that two prings emerge from underground, one leads west to Brandon and Thetford this is the source of The Little Ouse River which ischages into the Great Ouse River which in turn finishes up in The Wash at Kings Lynn. The second spring is the source of The River Waveney which flows East to The North Sea and flows out at Oulton Broad.

There are rare Konik horses [some call them ponies] of Polish origin, these help keep the marshes in trim. Fortunately we were able to see several different species of butterflies, hearing two Nightingales, spotting three Herons but not seeing the Fen Raft Spider [only to be found in two places in Britain]

I'm not sure if this part of Redgrave is in Norfolk, as in this part of Suffolk I thought the River Waveney was the boundary, anyway the SWT made this their first nature reserve so it 'must' be in Suffolk! smile.gif
