RE: Holton St. Peter

Thank you John for your kind welcome.

My great, great grandfather, JOHN CROCKFORD was born 1820 Hoxne and married CHARLOTTE DELF (born Holton) in 1842 at Holton St. Peter.

John lived in Holton Street in censuses from 1841 1861 before turning up in Metfield in 1871.  His occupation given on the various censuses was Brickmaker.

I would be very interested to know if there are any photographs/paintings/sketches of the brickworks.

On the 1861 Census, John and his family are shown as living in a Brickmakers Cottage in Holton Street.  Is it possible that the Brickmakers Cottage still exists and also if there are any photos/paintings/sketches of these cottages and also Holton Street preferably in  the 1841 1861 time frame.

What would the population of Holton be in the 1841 1861 time frame and what would the distance be between Holton and Metfield?

I would very much appreciate any assistance with the above.

I have visited Holton St. Peter today, I saw no one in the village to talk to, the children were playing in the school yard and I do not go anywhere near these places with a camera slung over my shoulder!

I didn't get up to Upper Holton sadly as I would have also liked to have seen the War Memorial, perhaps another day, I took many photos of The Windmill, cottages, the Lord Nelson now closed and in disrepair. I will post the photos within the next couple of weeks that is how far I am behind at the moment, sorry..............
