Over the last twenty to thirty years Trimley St Mary has changed enormously with the growth of The Port of Felixstowe, a new railway cutting has been made expansion of the Port upriver through the oysterbeds has taken a lot of the marsh land away.

If you park your car [if not on foot] at Searson's Farm and walk down the lane through the avenue of trees called Christmasyard Wood, there is a fork at the bottom of the hill, left and up the bund takes you on one circular walk to a viewing point overlooking Felixstowe Docks. The view from here is quite spectacular of an industrial complex.

Right at the bottom of the lane takes you through to The Suffolk Wildlife Trusts reserve at Trimley Marshes. Here you can see much birdlife, waders and gulls and of course Avocets. Hares can be seen in the fields beyond. There are several bird hides overlooking the scrapes and if you climb on top of the bund [sea wall] you can see much leisure activity on the river.

If you keep walking West you encompass a man made lagoon and you can walk back to the start point via Loompit Lake, Alston Hall and Grimston Hall, the latter having a great connection to the early British explorers

Directly from the end of Trinity Terminal on the Trimley Marshes across tp Shotley this is the dividing line between the River Orwell and The Stour Estuary
