Aldeburgh

Aldeburgh I find a delightful  place even if it is being taken over by second home owners, or so it has been reported, to me they don't detract from what is Aldeburgh. To spend an hour among the fishermen and their boats, visit the lifeboat station or to take a stroll along the beach in the unlikely hope of finding a piece of Amber, to the anticipation of a first class Fish and Chip dinner, it is always a delightful place to visit.

RE: Amber

The wife has got an eye for Amber, she has found some small pieces, nothing significant though, here are three amber shops in the area, Southwold and Felixstowe and of course in the High Street in Aldeburgh

Have stayed at Church Farm Caravan Site on a few occasions, just love the walks from here along the coast in either direction and around the adjacent RSPB Bird Reserve of North Warren.

Nice unspoilt town is Aldeburgh, the lookout towers, the Moot Hall, the cinema, the fish 'n chips which appear to be world famous and that is just to be seen queuing for the priviledge!smile

....and of course Snooks the Dog who was stolen  a few years ago, don't forget to support those brave lifeboatmen too

I stayed at Church Farm site in the 50s and early 60s when they had 2 Lifeboats, There was a character called Charlie who was always at the lifeboat station. On one occassion during the night after having heard and seen the maroon I was alowed ti knock out the pin from the chain holding the lifeboat at the top of the ramp. I also remember a suspect bomb being caught in a fishing net amd seeing the tv cameras filming whilst divers landed an ejectoer seat component. The railway used to run behind the caravan site then as well.
The actor Bill Kerr pilot from the Gary Halliday series and also some flying doctors radio show had a caravan next to us and I made friend with his family.

This is like Marmite you either like it or loathe it, unlike Marmite I like The Scallop, I don't consider it is anyones way, people do not have to go to view it if they don't want to, each to their own
