RE: Wildlife

Wildflowers are everwhere John, look in all damp places for the unusal, I always look in hedge bottoms the older the hedge the better. A lot of the real old hedgerow's were destroyed by the Farmers from the 1960's onward in order to gain a few yards more for more crops and to allow larger machines to be used. This destroyed a great deal of natural habitat for our wildlife also the chemicals they used destroyed the wildflowers.  Destroy the wildflowers and the insects disappear, also the birds that feed on the insects so what wildflowers you have left don't get fertilised by the insects, you are a lucky man these days if you find a Cornc0ckle growing wild yet in my youth they were everywhere. All vandalized for the sake of a few pounds. That's progress I suppose.

John, AW,

I have just come across this thread.  Some excellent photos there from you both.

I would be interested in knowing what camera/lens AW uses for his close-up work.

Hello Laurie, The camera I used was a Cannon and the lenz's were a multitude of different ones the most powerful being a 300mm with a Macro facility that cost £800. Like a fool I sold all my equipment £3,000 worth to go digital but have found nothing to match what I had. The best photos I have seen lately are the photos of John's and I know he uses a Nikon.

AW, thanks for the reply.

I have been looking through the photos that you have recently posted on all the threads.  They are very good.  I use a Canon EOS 400D with 3 lenses:  10 - 17mm ultra-wide, 17 - 85mm & 90 - 300mm.  Hope I can manage to match your shots.

I have seen your results on your web site Laurie and your photos are every bit as good as mine I just envy the variety of wildlife you have out there in Malaya.
