Brandeston was once the home village of Margaret Catchpole (see Hoo) and sits within two miles East of Cretingham, on my last visit here walking down by the River Deben to Cretingham through the Nature Trail you couldn't help but notice some really nice cottages lining the main street.

The church of All Saints looks resplendent with its white washed walls and a tall clipped Yew Hedge leading to the porch. Nearby is the majestic Elizabethan Hall which is now an extension to Framlingham College standing just North of the River Deben along with its weirs.

John Lowes the one time vicar of the parish was visited by the self appointed Witchfinder General Matthew Hopkins. He was interrogated for practising Witchcraft, found guilty and hanged at Bury St Edmunds.

There is a nature trail off The Earl Soham Road at OS 156 240359
