Shotley & Shotley Gate

Quite a large village which spreads itself over a peninsular with the Rivers Orwell and Stour sandwiching Shotley. If you are impressed by Docklands then a view of Trinity Quay Felixstowe is good from Shotley Church (Many sailors buried in the churchyard including German submariners)

Shotley was of course home to those 15-18 year old boys that decided they wanted a Naval career this is where they learned their skills. Imagine 120+ manning the rigging with one very youn button boy standing right at the top (Health & Safety eat your heart out) There is a museum dedicated to these boys by the marina. Personally I would say this is Suffolks finest view.

Vessels of all kinds going into Harwich-Parkestone, Felixstowe, Ipswich, several marinas including Shotley. Lovely walks too and some great bird watching in the area

I was taken by surprise yesterday when this vessel appeared round Landguard Point, it turned out to be a Finnish Ice Breaker named Fennica, weighing in at 9000 tonnes, she went past Shotley towards Parkeston Quay, what on earth would she be doing in the HHA
