Originally an old market town and staging post from London to Gt Yarmouth. It is hard to imagine today but it was less than a handful of decades ago that the main A12 Trunk Road ran through here. The River Deben runs through the 'top end' of the town, but the church has a claim that from its tower over 30 other Suffolk Churches can be seen. This has a rare octagonal tower from base to tip!
